Encouraging a Lifelong Love of Reading

At Whiz Kidz Early Learning Centre, we understand the important role that reading plays in the development of young children. We believe that cultivating a love for books and stories at an early age helps build a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning and success.

There are numerous benefits of reading to your toddlers

Language and Cognitive Development

Reading to toddlers is essential in developing their language skills and cognitive abilities. The exposure to words, sounds, and sentence structures helps them learn to speak and communicate effectively. Reading also introduces children to the concept of cause and effect, problem-solving and the development of critical thinking skills.

Emotional and Social Skills

Books offer an excellent opportunity for young children to explore and understand emotions, relationships and social situations. They learn to empathise with characters and develop a better understanding of their own feelings. Reading together also strengthens the bond between adult and child, fostering a sense of security and trust.

Vocabulary and Comprehension

Reading to your child from a young age helps expand their vocabulary and improves comprehension skills. When we read to toddlers, they are exposed to new words and their meanings, helping them build a robust vocabulary. As they grow older, this exposure to a wide variety of words will aid in their ability to understand and engage with more complex texts.

Imagination and Creativity

Reading stories allows children to dive into a world of imagination, where they can visualise characters, places and events. This development of imagination and creativity is essential for their overall growth and can contribute to their success in other areas of life.

At Whiz Kidz we are committed to fostering a love of reading in your young ones.

We have a number of initiatives to integrate books and reading into our day.

Daily Storytime Sessions

We hold daily storytime sessions in our classrooms, where our educators read age-appropriate books to the children. These sessions are designed to engage children, capture their attention, and make reading an enjoyable experience.

Reading Corners

We have set up cosy, reading corners in each room, stocked with a variety of age-appropriate books that cater to the diverse interests of our children. This space allows the children to explore books independently or with their friends, fostering a love for reading.
